Martinsburg attorney Catie Wilkes Delligatti filed to run for Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney on Tuesday, becoming the first Berkeley County resident to do so. Wilkes Delligatti is the first Republican to challenge the current prosecutor in over a decade. “For almost two decades, our prosecutor has chosen to live outside of Berkeley County,” said Wilkes Delligatti. “Berkeley County deserves a prosecutor who chooses to be a part of this community.” Wilkes Delligatti is a lifelong Berkeley County resident and graduate of Martinsburg High School, Shepherd University, and WVU College of Law.

Wilkes Delligatti, a Republican, is an attorney at Bowles Rice LLP, where she has a varied practice that includes prosecuting for the both the City of Martinsburg and Town of Shepherdstown, as well as representing individuals and businesses in tax and commercial matters. Wilkes Delligatti is the daughter of Christopher and Patricia Wilkes, and granddaughter of the late Jack and Margaret Skelly and Gilbert and Elizabeth Wilkes. Both Wilkes Delligatti’s father, Christopher Wilkes, and grandfather, Gilbert Wilkes, practiced law in Martinsburg. Wilkes Delligatti said that as prosecutor, she will be a part of a collaborative solution to her community’s challenges. “Our community is in a devastating heroin crisis,” said Wilkes Delligatti. “As Prosecutor, I will facilitate cooperation among law enforcement, county and city governments, mental health providers, and key stakeholders so the Prosecutor’s Office can be a roadmap, and not a roadblock, to our community’s future.” She went on to say, “I will be tough on violent criminals. Additionally, I will remain open to utilization of effective, evidence-based approaches to reduce recidivism, such as drug court.”
